Anti-wrinkle injections

Anti-wrinkle treatments are safe and effective injections used to address dynamic lines - the lines formed on the face when we animate during expression. The active ingredient, botulinum toxin, causes treated muscles to relax. The result is softening and healing of static lines (lines we see on the skin at rest) giving an overall fresher appearance.

At Fé Clinic we offer Dysport® and Botox® brands of botulinum toxin type A. Product choice is determined by personal preference, and is guided by our professional advice.

Existing lines will be improved by anti-wrinkle injections and will continue to improve with repeated treatments.

You may be familiar with the saying that prevention is the best medicine. Well this applies to wrinkles too. Starting early on will help reduce permanent, etched-in lines from developing.

Common areas treated with anti-wrinkle include frown lines, crows feet and forehead lines. There are many other areas we can treat off label in the lower face, including treatment for jaw clenching and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

Anti-wrinkle FAQs

  • During your consultation we will consult on all of your concerns, expectations, suitability for treatment and determine the need for complementary treatments. Each time we see you, we will reassess your muscle strength and may adjust the dose accordingly. Treatment itself is quick and easy, and usually takes less than ten minutes.

    Following treatment you may experience stinging, redness, tingling or minor swelling at the injection site, which you can expect to resolve within a couple of hours. Less commonly, you may experience bruising and this may take several days to resolve. Some people develop a headache as the treatment takes effect.

  • The treatment starts to take effect over 1 - 4 days, reaching its peak effect at two weeks. We always give you the opportunity for a follow up appointment at this point to review the results, and make any minor adjustments should they be required. The length of time treatment lasts is variable on a number of factors such as the area treated, the dose used and differences in individual characteristics. Generally to maintain results, treatment is repeated 3 - 4 monthly.

  • In order to achieve optimal outcomes, we place the treatment very specifically. We don't want this to move, so it is important to follow our post treatment instructions.

    Avoid touching the area following treatment.

    Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.

    Avoid active skin care for 24 hours.

    Avoid face down massage for 48 hours post treatment.

    Avoid any other facial aesthetic treatments for two weeks.

  • Adverse outcomes are uncommon with anti-wrinkle injections. Should they arise, the effect is temporary and normal contraction will return as the treatment wears off. Recognised risks include ptosis of the brow or eyelid, dry eyes, asymmetry and lack of response to treatment.

Are you fit and well?

You must be well on the day of treatment. Any form of cold/flu, other infection, inflammation, or an unmanaged autoimmune condition may increase the chance of side effects, and treatment must be delayed. If you are unsure please contact the clinic to discuss whether treatment is appropriate.

Pregnancy or Breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unfortunately you cannot be treated with anti-wrinkle injections. Please complete your journey before you book in for treatment.

Vitamins, Supplements and Medications  
Many of these can cause thinning of the blood. This causes you to be more prone to bruising. If you do take any blood thinning supplements vitamins or medications, please avoid them for two weeks prior to your injectable appointment if possible. Examples include green tea, fish oils, aspirin, Ibuprofen, Voltaren etc, high dose vitamin E, gingko biloba, turmeric and alcohol.

Other Facial Treatments

We advise that you do not have any other skin treatments, facial treatments, waxing, IPL, laser treatments, eyebrow treatments, massaging, pressing, or leaning on the treated area for one week after your anti-wrinkle treatment.

No Makeup

Please arrive at your appointment free from makeup. To reduce the risk of infection, no makeup can be worn for 24 hours following treatment.
